Our final stop in the Canary Islands is Arrecife in Lanzarote. After our efforts to reach Sioux City yesterday, we decided today should be more relaxed. As a result, we didn’t plan to do a lot in town.

Miles from anywhere

Because of its size, Sky Princess is docked at the pier furthest from town. In fact, it’s a 2.5 mile (4.1km) walk back to civilisation.

Thankfully, Princess has laid on free shuttle buses… that take us to the marina, rather than the town proper. So it’s another ten minutes on foot.

Aimless wandering

We head past the pretty-looking old town harbour and into the shopping area. There’s a decent collection of restaurants and bars, lots of shops selling knock-off fashion and a handful of stalls peddling volcanic rock jewellery and the like.

We’re not here to shop, so we continue down the pedestrianised main street and back to the seafront. We’re heading to the old fort, Castillo de San Gabriel, to grab a geocache. But there’s a problem – the volcanic cobblestones have aged badly, making the surface too rough for Lin’s mobility scooter. I have to finish the hunt without her.

Back to the ship

Sadly, Arrecife fails to grab our attention, so we head back to the ship. Along the way we manage to collect two more geocaches, bringing our global total to 775.

The queue for the shuttle buses is mercifully quick and we are back onboard Sky Princess long before the 4:30pm deadline.

Would we come back?

Honestly? Probably not. And definitely not until the mobility scooter is no longer required. Even then, any future visit would be using Arrecife as a jumping off point for exploring the volcanic interior of Lanzarote.
